Nashville Road Trip

There's a saying, "not all who wander are lost," but on my recent trip to Nashville with my friends, whenever we were wandering we were lost.

Nashville was just a stopover on our tip to visit a friend in Virginia, but I was really excited about it. I had never been there, but it was somewhere I desperately wanted to go. The plan was that we would get there in the afternoon so we could spend the whole night and next morning there, but because of traffic we didn't get there till about five which we later found out was right in the middle of the city's worst traffic hours. My other friend who had been there several times before recommended a great hotel, the Gaylord Opryland Resort and Convention Center, which had over 2,800 rooms so she said we wouldn't have a problem getting one. On the way to the hotel we got lost four times,.....yes, four times no exaggeration. We drove around for three hours in the traffic and I frantically called my friend who stayed there to see if she had gotten a different address from the hotel. It turns out the GPS was slow and we couldn't tell where it was saying to turn so I ended up using the maps on my iPhone and it worked much better.

When we got to the hotel it was absolutely beautiful! It is decorated with different guitars representing Nashville and the middle had waterfalls, plants, and one piece even looks like a little town. There are also interactive boards that tell you where you are, give you a map of the hotel, and tell you what restaurants are open, what food they serve, etc. They also have shuttles that will take you into the city and pick you up.

We had to park in a side parking lot and because the hotel was so big we got lost going to the front desk twice (six times getting lost for the day). After finally finding the front desk, the woman working there informed us that there were no rooms left because multiple companies were hosting conventions there. She was extremely nice and waved our parking fee and told us we were welcome to eat at one of the hotels seventeen restaurants. She gave us a map of the hotel and marked where we had parked and the best restaurants. You actually need a map the hotel is so big and I definitely recommend getting one.

We were originally planning to eat at Jack Daniels but the wait was so long that we ended up eating across the hall at Fuse (their pretzel sticks are amazing btw) and then we went to the gelato place which was so so good!!! We hung out at the hotel and watched the waterfall show they have around nine and then went back to the hotel we were staying at, but even with the map we did get lost again trying to find the right parking lot. I think we hit about ten times by now haha!

Overall, I didn't really get to see too much of the city other than the few blocks we drove around eight billion times while we were lost. My friends and I decided that we are going to go again, but we are going to plan the trip much better and we are definitely flying next time. After the next trip, I will give you guys my review on the city, but as for now New York remain my favorite although I did grow up there so I'm a little biased.
